Saami Ski Race

International marathon ski race from Enontekiö, Finland to Kautokeino, Norway April 1, 2012. We welcome 500 skiers to the race.

Saami Ski Race track follows an ancient mail delivery path from the village of Hetta to Kautokeino, Norway. In the old days mail was carried on foot, on skis or with a reindeer sled. On the way, it is possible to see some reindeer because this area is also an important pasture for the reindeer. The Saami culture in both countries gives a special character for the race as well. In Kautokeino 90 % of the population speaks Saami and in Enontekiö roughly 10%.

The 90 km and 30 km races starts from the community center of Enontekiö, the village of Hetta. The 60 km race starts from the village of Näkkälä, close to the Norwegian border. There are classe for men and women. The skiing style is free, and you may ski classic style on a groomed track.

There are direct flights from Helsinki to Enontekiö, read more
